I Got Rid of My Pre-Pregnancy Clothes

I’ve struggled with body image for most of my life. I shot up to 5’11’’ and was fully developed by the time I was 12 years old. I was teased for being big in late elementary school and tormented by two classmates when I was the new kid when I was in middle school. These early experiences left a massive mark on my ability to love my body and show up confidently in the world.

Yoga For Healing

I shared last month that my intention for 2021 was to foster an environment of strength, balance and energy. While I would love to take credit for doing the work to get myself to these words, the credit is due to my new yoga teacher, Navishka. She starts every practice with a meditation and my second class with her started with the words:

Sthira sukham asanam is a Sanskrit yoga sutra which means strength without rigidity, flexibility without instability. It really means balance.

Christmas Traditions

I grew up away from my extended family and in the 1980s and 1990s the distance between New England and California might as well have been New England to Singapore. I didn’t know any different. My Christmases always felt abundant in love from our “friends who were family” in California and for everything we did leading up to and surrounding the holidays.

I now understand and appreciate that my Christmases were special because my parents created traditions. Our family traditions have changed over the years as our location, age and circumstances have changed but the magic has remained year after year.

Finding Balance in Activity and Being Bored

Keeping toddlers busy and active without over scheduling them is like orchestrating a perfectly choreographed dance. You want your child to be socialized and getting used to some structured time but you also want them to be free to get bored and discover.

Life in Singapore in 2020

Singapore is a little island in Southeast Asia, known as the Little Red Dot. It is a bit of a utopia - it is super clean, super safe, covered in palm trees and sunny most days. There are definitely times when I have to pinch myself that this is real life. Singapore is mostly jungle and is home to some crazy wildlife, including about 5.5 million people. We have everything here - beaches, urban hiking, jungle, city center, restaurants, playground, theater, museums and so much more. During normal times, Singapore's Changi airport is a bustling hub offering amazing amenities for people visiting or just transiting through.

Archives: Red Boat Fish Sauce

When I did my first Whole 30 back in April 2014, I was shocked at all the crap that sneaks its way into our food. Reading labels became an obsessive habit and it is one I carry to this day. I’ve said this many times before but will say it again - small changes over time can have a profound impact on our health.

Becoming My Own Health Advocate

It has been 7 weeks since I saw my naturopath for the first time and started my postpartum integrative care journey. I have thoroughly enjoyed this process so far - even the x-rays, blood draws and ultrasound. This is only just beginning and I have already learned so much about myself and my body.

When I Feel Rundown

This is the first week that I have had writer’s block. We got hit by a little bug and I have no energy at the end of the day, which is when I usually sit down to write. Then it dawned on me that the whole point of this blog is to be a resource for other mamas to turn to and that someone may want to know what we do when we feel rundown.

Quick and Easy Recipes

Quick and easy recipes are a mom’s best friend. I love to cook and could spend all day in the kitchen but a) I don’t have time to do that and b) I hate doing dishes. This week I have decided to round up 10 of my favorite recipes in hopes that it takes some pressure off of you around meal time.

Singapore Staycation

I could write a novel about our one-week staycation in Singapore last week. But in the interest of my sanity and you not losing interest, I’m going to try to pack a lot of info into a shortish (but not really at all…) post.
